The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office warns of phone scams involving jury duty

Rochester, New York – A warning on the most recent phone scam is being issued by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Residents are getting calls this time stating that a sergeant or deputy is on the other end of the line, inquiring about a jury duty or court appearance that was missed.
The con artists are saying that you must use PayPal or Apple Pay to pay a fine.
The Sheriff’s Office is warning people not to give out any personal information and that neither deputies nor any court will request payment over the phone.
Those who get such calls should instead end the call and call the Sheriff’s Office at 585-394-4560 on their own.
