The Griffins’ remarkable performance in the Class B Far West Regional, including standout contributions from Kanaz Linder and Devin Dillon, propels them into the state final four, a first for the team

Rochester, New York – In a stunning display of skill and team spirit, the World of Inquiry School No. 58 boys basketball team, known as the Griffins, has advanced to the state final four, marking a historic achievement for the Rochester City School District. This remarkable journey reached a new peak when the Griffins defeated Akron in the Class B Far West Regional on Friday, March 14, securing their place in the much-anticipated semifinals.
The game that clinched their spot was a showcase of talent and strategic play, with standout performances from Kanaz Linder, who scored 16 points, Devin Dillon, who added 13 points, and Curtis Bell, who contributed 11 points to the victory. Their efforts exemplified the team’s depth and capability, characteristics that have defined their season.
The road to this achievement began earlier in the month when the Griffins captured their first-ever Class B Section V championship. On March 8, at the Blue Cross Arena, they faced off against Waterloo in a tense matchup, ultimately prevailing with a 62-53 win. This victory not only secured their title but also set the stage for their continued success in the regional competitions.
Head Coach Willie Mason, recently honored as Section V’s Class B1 Coach of the Year, has been a pivotal figure in this journey. Under his leadership, the team has excelled, displaying exceptional determination, resilience, and teamwork. Coach Mason’s coaching philosophy has evidently paid dividends, fostering a winning mentality among his players.
Looking ahead, the Griffins are now set to face their next challenge against Marcellus from Section III in the state semifinal. This crucial game is scheduled for Saturday, March 22, at 11:45 a.m., in Binghamton. As they prepare for this encounter, the support from the RCSD community has been overwhelming, with students, teachers, and alumni rallying behind their team.
The excitement within the community is palpable, as fans and supporters express their pride and high hopes for the team’s success in the upcoming games. The Griffins’ journey to the state final four is not just a testament to their hard work and athletic prowess but also a source of inspiration and unity for the entire district.
As the countdown to the semifinal begins, all eyes will be on World of Inquiry as they strive to continue their historic run and capture the state championship, a goal that is now within their grasp.
