Suspect charged in deadly Brighton crash appears in court
Rochester, New York – Thursday afternoon saw the appearance of one of the three defendants charged in relation to the crash that claimed the life of Brighton resident Thomas Chase, 92, last week in Monroe County Court.
It was time for the 19-year-old Theophilus Parks’ evidence hearing. However the judge’s video was having technical difficulties, so the case was postponed until Tuesday of next week.
Parks is still not in custody. He faces charges related to unlawfully possessing pilfered goods.
According to the police, he was a passenger in the stolen Kia that struck Chase’s car last Thursday at the intersection of East and Elmwood Avenues. Chase passed away right there.
Theodice Parks, 17, her brother, is accused of driving and faces murder charges.
At the time, the suspects were being pursued by police in a chase that had started in Rochester.
The RPD asserts that it adhered to pursuit policies and notes that Theodice Parks has had numerous legal run-ins.
Police said that a third suspect, 19-year-old Trevan Simmons, had earlier eluded them and thrown a loaded pistol. He is accused of having a weapon in criminal possession.
