Museum marks Susan B. Anthony’s 205th birthday with restoration reveal

Rochester, New York – In honor of Susan B. Anthony’s 205th birthday, the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House will hold an event on Saturday morning to present a recently preserved plaster sculpture of the woman.

With funding from a Bank of America Art Conservation Project grant, the West Lake Art Conservation Center has finished conservation treatment on this figurine, which was made by Gilded Age sculptor Bessie Potter Vonnoh in 1896.

The statuette’s base, top back, and neck were the main areas where the plaster had come off during the conservation process.

In order to preserve the statuette’s durability and carry on celebrating Susan B. Anthony’s legacy, the Anthony Museum undertook these essential repairs.

In order to support the preservation of historically or culturally significant artwork, the Bank of America Art Conservation Project (ACP) awards funds to nonprofit cultural organizations across the globe.

The Carriage House, which is behind the visitor center at the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House on Madison Street, will host the event starting at 10:00 a.m.
