During the birthday celebration, the Susan B. Anthony Museum announces plans for expansion

Rochester, New York – On Wednesday, hundreds of people came to the National Susan B. Anthony Museum & House to celebrate Susan B. Anthony’s birthday and learn about a recent development.
At the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Brown Street, the museum revealed plans to add a new structure that it would call “1 Jefferson.”
A 6,000-square-foot immersive exhibit space and a separate wing dedicated to storing antique museum artifacts will be features of the new building.
Deborah L. Hughes, president and CEO of the museum, stated, “So that we have really good, museum-quality storage for the artifacts that we have because we’re keeping some of the United States’ most treasured artifacts around Susan B. Anthony and our history.” “And so we need to have the right kind of space that has all the temperature controls.”
The museum’s commemoration of Anthony’s life continues as it approaches the last stages of raising the $25 million it needs.
“The people who are following up on my life and work are so important to me, particularly in today’s world,” a historical reenactor stated. “And I hear they’re celebrating my birthday, but I’m celebrating everyone who’s doing the hard work for women.”
The gala carries on a custom that the suffragette herself established.
“She would have a birthday party as a fundraiser for the women’s suffrage association and so that’s been the tradition and it goes on many, many years ago,” Hughes explained. “It feels nice. It’s truly thrilling.
