Monroe County, New York – On Thursday Monroe County officials announced that they have purchased 1 million COVID-19 tests for residents.

Starting next week, these 15-minute rapid at-home tests will be distributed in waves.

According to officials, they plan to announce the distribution times and locations soon.

Health officials also reiterated the need to get vaccinated.

Unvaccinated people are five times more likely to be hospitalized, a recent analysis on local hospital revealed.

“Yes, vaccinated people can be infected, are being infected today, and will test positive for COVID, but they are not dying or ending up in the ICU in the same numbers as unvaccinated people have unless there are other health-related issues,” Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said.
