AHL announces 2020-21 season will begin on February 5
The Rochester Amerks could be returning to the ice for game action this February.
In a statement this afternoon from American Hockey League president and chief executive officer Scott Howson, the AHL announced the league’s 2020-2021 season will begin on February 5, 2021 following approval from the AHL Board of Governors.
The statement went on to say that details are still being worked out for the coming season.
On May 11, 2020, the league cancelled the final stretch of the 2019-2020 regular season and the 2020 Calder Cup Playoffs due to the COVID-19 public health crisis.
Games at The Blue Cross Arena will be played without fans present until further notice, in order to comply with local, state, and health officials.
“While we’re thrilled and excited to finally have the opportunity to bring hockey back to Rochester, we do share in the disappointment that we’ll be forced to start the season without fans in the building due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” said Amerks Vice President of Business Operations Rob Minter.
