Amerks captain Kevin Porter announces his retirement

Rochester Americans captain Kevin Porter has announced his retirement, ending a 12-year playing career with 777 combined regular-season games in the National Hockey League and American Hockey League.

Porter will transition into the coaching ranks, joining the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins an assistant coach for the 2020-21 season.

The 34-year-old Porter spent parts of five seasons in Rochester (2012-14, 2017-20), recording 184 points on 68 goals and 116 assists in 269 career games. He served as team captain each of the past three seasons and four times in his five years with the Amerks.

Over his 12-year pro career, Porter has notched 354 points (129+225) in 528 career AHL games between Rochester, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Grand Rapids, San Antonio and Lake Erie while also tallying 24 points (3+21) in 39 Calder Cup playoff games.
