A Rochester man is finally home after a nearly eight-month COVID-19 battle in hospital
Rochester, New York — A Rochester man is discharged from hospital after an 8-month COVID battle.
Francisco Marti-Jerez and several other members of his family contracted COVID-19 around Last New Year’s Eve.
The 65-year-old had become so ill he was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by early January.
According to doctors, Marti-Jerez had to be intubated and had only a 3% chance of survival.
Four months ago, he was moved to Monroe Community Hospital. At the time, the staff was unsure if he would ever go home.
“When he came to us, he still had the trach and the peg tube and he could barely do any activity,” said Erin Stefanovic.
According to the LPN at Monroe Community Hospital, the virus had “decimated his lungs”. The damage was so bad, Marti-Jerez could barely sit at the side of the bed.
However, with patience and perseverance, his recovery progressed, inspiring hope in others.
“He proved us all wrong. He defied the odds,” said Stefanovic.
