The people of Rochester come together to honor Reverend Iris J. Banister’s life and legacy

Rochester, New York – On Saturday morning, the people of Rochester paid tribute to the life and legacy of Reverend Iris J. Banister.
Banister passed away on March 11 at the age of 77. Throughout her career in education, Banister gained recognition as an ardent teacher, supporter, and community activist who was dedicated to empowering women and girls.
“Some folks would say about Iris Banister that she had a heart for people and she had a heart for her people,” said Simeon Banister, son of Reverend Banister.
The neighborhood came together to honor her significant influence on a great number of lives.
Through the Iris and Thomas Banister Memorial Fund at the community foundation, the family is carrying on her legacy.
