A member of the governor’s cabinet and a business expert comment on new gun regulations
Rochester, New York – Following the signing of six new gun regulations on Wednesday, a local guns expert and a member of Governor Kathy Hochul’s cabinet offered their opinions.
New York’s nation-leading gun laws will be strengthened by the six newly enacted bills, according to the governor’s office, and additional tools and resources will be made available to help safeguard more New Yorkers from gun crime.
Two of the new rules target “pistol convertors,” or “Glock-switches,” and require tobacco-style safety warnings at gun counters. Another regulation requires banks to more precisely identify purchases related to guns, and another modifies the procedure for handling emergency risk protection orders.
But not everyone believes the laws will be effective. The proprietor of Allstar Tactical, Mike Centola, stated that his company would incur additional expenses as a result of the recently mandated warning signs.
“They’re trying to piggyback off the idea that the labeling for cigarettes and nicotine stopped people from doing this stuff,” Centola said.
In reference to handgun convertors, Schroeder stated, “The gun industry is now required to prevent this.” “To work with the lawmakers and try to figure out a way to prevent this from happening.”
“No matter what you do, what the manufacturer does, somebody with enough skill is going to be able to modify a firearm,” Centola stated. He added that auto-sears, also known as pistol converters, have long been prohibited on a federal level.
Schroeder stated, “When somebody of suspicious character spends $26,000 on a credit card to buy firearms, somehow, some way, law enforcement needs to know about it.” in reference to the laws pertaining to credit and debit card providers.
We didn’t sell Centola. “People are gonna pay cash or cryptocurrency or something to avoid it altogether,” Centola stated.
