All federal workers might be required to vaccinate very soon, president Biden announced on Tuesday
As the vaccination has stalled lately across the country, health, state and country officials are considering different ways to make vaccinate hesitant people get the shot. Our partner site MDMH – Coral Springs yesterday reported that multiple cities and states already made the vaccination mandatory for their employees.
According to the Biden’s latest announcement on Tuesday, it looks like the White House administration is thinking of making it mandatory for federal workers to get the coronavirus vaccine. Biden’s comments were just a follow up of what his press secretary said hours earlier.
As of yesterday, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced it will require its front-line health care workers to be vaccinated against COVID-19. And many more federal agencies might follow their decision.
“That is under consideration right now, but if you’re not vaccinated, you’re not nearly as smart as I thought you were,” Biden said during a visit to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki in an early Tuesday announcement also confirmed that many other federal agencies might follow the Department of Veteran Affairs decision as the Covid-19 cases surge across the country lately.
“I think a range of agencies and leaders will look at what steps they should take to protect their workforce and save lives,” she said.
White House and Biden administration haven’t pushed for mandatory vaccination since the start of the vaccination. However, the number of employers asking for mandatory vaccination in certain industries is rising, as well as the lowered vaccination process combined with the rising number of cases lately make the White House to reconsider their initial position on this issue.
As of now, the city of New York, San Francisco, California and the Department of Veterans Affairs are the first to officially announce mandatory vaccination for their employees. They revealed their decisions on Monday.
