The ‘cancer’ from the community has to be removed, Chaney warns at the start of the first January 6 committee hearing on Tuesday

Everyone involved in the January 6 Capitol riot events have to testify in order the issues regarding the incident to be solved and those found guilty to take responsibility for the events. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) on the first committee hearing said that the cancer in America will remain if this incident against the democracy is not completely solved.

If they don’t cooperate, the committee should “promptly” subpoena them, she said.

Chaney is one of the two Republicans who were appointed by Nancy Pelosi to serve the special panel investigating the Capitol riots. Chaney in her first, opening statement aimed at pro-Trump mob that invaded the Capitol as well as Trump’s allies like Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who spoke to Trump as the siege was underway. There are several other GOD representatives who also defended the rioters and Trump’s actions that day.

“The American people deserve the full and open testimony of every person with knowledge of the planning and preparation for January 6th. … We must also know what happened every minute of that day in the White House — every phone call, every conversation, every meeting leading up to, during and after the attack. Honorable men and women have an obligation to step forward,” Cheney said in her statement according to The Hill.

“If those responsible are not held accountable, and if Congress does not act responsibly, this will remain a cancer on our constitutional Republic, undermining the peaceful transfer of power at the heart of our democratic system.

Earlier on Tuesday, just before the beginning of the committee, several GOP leaders including McCarthy held a press conference blaming Pelosi and her fellow Democrats for the security breach that day.

However, both of the GOP representatives who are part of the special panel Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), insist that the events should be fully investigated and everyone involved in the incident should be held accountable.

As we already reported yesterday before the start of the committee, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger were selected by Pelosi herself, after Republicans decided to boycott the panel following Pelosi’s refusal of the McCarthy’s picks who to take part in the panel.

Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are among few who voted for Trump impeachment and critical of Trump.

“We must issue and enforce subpoenas promptly. We must get to the objective truth,” Cheney said. “We must overcome the many efforts we are already seeing to cover up and obscure the facts.”
