Community members and police respond to the city’s 66th homicide of the year
Rochester, New York – Police are looking into a murder that happened late on Friday night, but violence in the city is still prevalent.
Police were called about a shooting on East Main Street outside an apartment building just after 11:00 p.m. by a guy in his 30s.
Police are attempting to stop the violence the city is seeing before things become worse, as this is the 66th homicide the city has seen this year.
“Anytime someone gets shot and killed its concerning also considering this is a fairly quiet neighborhood and there are some entertainment places nearby, “ said RPD Major Crimes Unit Captain Frank Umbrino, “Hopefully this is an isolated incident and something those people visiting these places won’t have to worry about.”
While recently visiting the location of the homicide, Andy Seiles claimed he saw something wasn’t right. “I was in the neighborhood recently with a friend and I felt the pressure in the atmosphere of some sort of activity and violence. I headed out of the area quickly,” said Seiles.
He noted that despite how upsetting this is, people should still go out and enjoy the city while remaining mindful of their surroundings. “Anything can happen in the area. Of course, I don’t think the area is that bad it’s just surprising to hear that homicide happened,” said Seiles, “I would say you have to be on the site to keep an eye out for what’s going to happen.”
Police are currently searching for anyone who may be connected to this shooting. Calling 911 or Crime Stoppers at (423) 9300 is encouraged for anyone with information. You may be eligible for a monetary award while maintaining your anonymity.
