Young Pilots Program at BOCES introduces flying at a young age

Rochester New York – In the midst of a pilot shortage across the country, a program in Upstate New York is attempting to train pilots at a younger age than is customary in order to fill the void.

At BOCES in Hudson, there is an airplane simulator that gives senior high school students the opportunity to gain some practice in piloting an aircraft without actually having to leave the ground.

The movement of the simulator is designed to simulate what it is like to be in the air and experience turbulence in real life.

“You know, it’s extremely hard to put into words.

Adele Heuer, a student, expressed her sentiments by saying, “I mean, you’re by yourself, and you’ve got to trust your instincts that you know what you do and that you were trained right.”

Students from the surrounding area who might not otherwise be able to afford it are given the opportunity to participate in this free program.

It is hoped that these kids will be motivated to pursue their dreams of becoming commercial pilots or joining the military and that they will be inspired to do so.
