Town of Penfield ramps up park cleanup and upgrades with fresh mulch, repaired sod, and refinished picnic tables to welcome outdoor enthusiasts back to nature

Penfield, New York – As the days grow longer and the chill of winter begins to fade, the Town of Penfield is buzzing with activity, particularly at its beloved parks. With spring officially here, the Penfield Parks Department is ramping up its efforts to ensure that all public spaces are primed and ready for residents eager to embrace the outdoors.

The winter season often leaves behind a mess, and cleaning up is no small feat. Currently, the department’s crews are busy repairing sod, picking up scattered debris, and performing general maintenance tasks that are crucial after the cold months. One of the first tasks completed was the refinishing of picnic tables, a clear sign that the town is preparing for picnickers and outdoor gatherings.

Looking ahead, the department has set an ambitious goal to have all sports nets, especially for the increasingly popular pickleball courts, installed by mid-April. These preparations come just in time for the warmer weather, when residents are keen to start their games. For those looking to reserve court time or have specific inquiries, the Recreation Department is ready to assist at the provided contact number.

Amidst these routine preparations, there’s a special focus on the Alpheus Clark House area, which is currently under renovation. To minimize disruption and maintain access to the beloved Shadow Pines property, several adjustments have been made. Notably, the re-striping of parking spots in the south lot and the introduction of overflow parking on a grassy area north of the main lot are intended to accommodate more visitors as soon as the ground conditions allow. Additionally, temporary trails and walkways are being considered to ensure that accessibility remains seamless.

April will also see the Parks Department conducting thorough inspections of playgrounds and trails. The schedule includes mulching, aeration of athletic fields, and rolling of these fields to ensure they are in top condition. Such meticulous care is part of the department’s commitment to maintaining safe and appealing recreational spaces.

By the end of April, the mowing contractors are scheduled to begin their work, setting a regular maintenance rhythm that will continue throughout the season. This effort underscores the town’s dedication to providing well-kept and welcoming spaces for everyone.

Residents and visitors are reminded to adhere to park rules and regulations. These include observing park hours, keeping dogs leashed, and adhering to the carry-in, carry-out trash policy. Such guidelines are designed to ensure that everyone can enjoy the parks safely and responsibly.

The Parks Department takes great pride in serving the community and maintaining the beauty and utility of its properties. For any further questions or concerns, community members are encouraged to reach out to the department directly. The team is more than happy to assist and ensure that Penfield’s parks remain a source of joy and relaxation for all who visit.
