This week, payment cheques for the Empire State Child Tax Credit will be placed in mailboxes

Albany, New York – Through the Empire State Child Credit Program, New York State has formally started paying low- and moderate-income families an additional $350 million.

By the end of August, one million New York families with children will receive a check in the mail for $350 million, according to Governor Kathy Hochul.

This week, the first batch of checks will arrive in the mailboxes of the recipients after being mailed out on Monday. Over a million qualified families will get checks worth up to $330 per child over the course of the next two weeks.

Families may receive an additional payment of up to $330 per child through the Empire State Child Tax Credit.

Accordingly, within specific income brackets, everyone with children under the age of 17 can be eligible for the benefit, according to Kate Breslin, President of the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy. “At $110,000, people start to lose their eligibility, and it gradually phases in at about $10,000.”

According to Breslin, a family’s tax benefit is also determined by how many children they have.

The payment will be between 25 and 100 percent of the child tax credit that families were awarded the previous year. Those who qualify must have filed a state income tax return by April 15, 2024, and must have received at least $100 in the Empire State Tax Credit for tax year 2023, according to the New York State Department of Tax and Finance.

According to Hochul, “New Yorkers don’t have to do anything to receive this payment.” “No paperwork, no calls, no formalities to fill out. It will simply arrive for them.

Breslin stated that families would receive the money on schedule.

It is happening precisely when families are planning their back-to-school purchases and other activities.

To guarantee that every family receives their income, cheques are delivered at a rate of more than 100,000 each day.

This additional payment is only being made for this year.
