Free mental health services are being provided by Rochester in the wake of the Maplewood Park massacre

Rochester, New York – The city is increasing its efforts to provide mental health help to those who were affected by the tragedy and those who were present on the day of the mass shooting at Maplewood Park as they work to recover.

Mayor Malik Evans of Rochester and other local officials said on Monday that three free events will be held this week to help city dwellers get in touch with resources for support.

Counselors from the city’s person-in-crisis (PIC) team, the county’s forensic investigative team (FIT), and the wellness nonprofit BreatheDeep will be on hand to offer people urgent support and, if necessary, connect them to long-term resources at the events, which will be held at a few city R-Centers.

“When you have someone in a park that went there for a barbecue, or to push their child on a swing, but then have to be met with gunfire, the implications of that are far-reaching.” Evans stated at the press briefing on Monday. “So, although the city and county can’t solve this by ourselves, it is important we provide that space.”

Authorities in the city are urging citizens to utilize the resources at their disposal.

Such violence has a profound effect on people. several dozen witnesses to Tyasia and Phylicia’s murders. Dr. Shirley Green, commissioner of the city’s Department of recreation and Human Services, continued, “This is not normal. “All of these people will never be the same, all because of the violence and selfish decisions made by other people, but we can come together and work to heal the trauma caused by this violence.”
