The Penfield Central School District has appointed a new superintendent
Penfield, New York – Dr. Tasha Potter has been appointed as the new superintendent of Penfield Central School District.
This comes soon after it was announced that Dr. Thomas Putnam would resign as superintendent of Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES in order to assume a leadership position within the organization.
For the past three years, Potter has been the assistant superintendent for equity and access at Penfield CSD. She also held positions as principal and assistant principal at the Greece Central School District, as well as director of diversity and equity planning for Monroe One BOCES.
Potter might be named superintendent as soon as Thursday, provided the Board of Education gives its permission.
“We understand the importance of this process and want to assure the community that the Board spent significant time consulting with educational leaders and the school district’s attorney regarding our options for hiring a new superintendent. While we considered both an external search and interim hiring, we ultimately decided to hire internally for the permanent position,” said Dr. Emily Roberts, Penfield BOE president.
Potter received her master’s in liberal studies and bachelor’s in psychology from SUNY Brockport, her doctorate in executive leadership from St. John Fisher University, and her Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY Brockport.
“The Penfield Central School District has a strong educational foundation that I look forward to continuing to strengthen. Together, we will provide learning environments that prioritize excellence, rigorous instruction, high expectations, and success for all
students,” Potter said.
The effective date of Putnam’s resignation as superintendent is August 31. Upon board approval at its July 18 meeting, Potter will start her new role on September 1.
