Albany, New York — According to a new study, any decline in COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness may have been driven by the delta variant.

The New York State Health Department found the vaccine was very effective in keeping people out of the hospital.

According to the study, there were modest declines among those 65 and older who received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

The New York State Health Department findings support the need for boosters among older adults.

They added that it’s the biggest study in the country, looking at nearly nine million New Yorkers over the age of 18 vaccinated in January through April of this year.
