Nancy Pelosi puts pressure on Trump as she lets Cheney to get the prime speaking slot at first Jan. 6 committee hearing

As we already reported, the January 6 committee will take place on Tuesday for the very first time. Despite Democrats’ efforts to include as many GOP representatives as possible in the committee, it ended up with only joining two of them, Wyoming Republican Liz Cheney and Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger. What’s similar for both? Well, they are both critical of Donald Trump and his policies.

Now, it looks like Nancy Pelosi want to put a bit more pressure on Trump and his fellow GOP supporters with naming Cheney to get the prime speaking slot at first Jan. 6 committee hearing. According to the latest information from the committee, this is a Democrat’s effort to present the proceedings as bipartisan despite the boycott by House GOP leaders.

An unnamed source connected with the committee’s processes and plans, confirmed that Chaney’s statement will follow one from the select committee’s chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.).

Four police officers who defended the Capitol on January 6 will attend the first committee hearing that will take place on Tuesday and they will place their testimonies about the incidents. The committee officially announced that Harry Dunn, Aquilino Gonell, Michael Fanone and Daniel Hodges of the Capitol Police will all attend the first hearing.

Two of the officers suffered injuries during the riots and investigators were able to present videos of those incidents. According to The Hill, video in the days after the Jan. 6 attack showed the mob dragging Fanone down a set of stairs on the Capitol’s West Front, while Hodges was seen in another screaming in pain as the rioters ripped off his mask and sprayed chemical irritants in his face as he was wedged in a doorway.

The Republicans initially decided to take part of the what could have been a ‘bipartisan’ committee, but later they decided to boycott the committee after Nancy Pelosi refused to seat two of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) picks.

McCarthy’s picks were Reps. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), both known to be heavy Trump supporters and two of the loudest promoters of Trump’s claims of election fraud.

In the end, Pelosi decided to invite Wyoming Republican Liz Cheney and Illinois Republican Adam Kinzinger and both of them cheerfully accepted her invitation. Cheney and Kinzinger are among few who voted for Trump’s impeachment and great opponents on his policies. Additionally, they were the only ones voting in favor of creating the select committee last month.

It seems like Pelosi really knew who to invite in the committee and then call it a ‘bipartisan committee.’

“I’m a Republican dedicated to conservative values, but I swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution — and while this is not the position I expected to be in or sought out, when duty calls, I will always answer,” Kinzinger said in a statement on Sunday.
