Students in one Fairport school can now buy books from a book vending machine installed at the school
FAIRPORT, N.Y. — The Northside PTA wants to get students interested in reading by making it fun for them to get a good book.
Fairport uses a bright and colorful vending machine to spread the joy of reading. No, it’s not a machine that sells drinks and snacks. All of it is books. Outside of the Northside School library, a new book vending machine has just been put in. Thanks to the Northside PTA, it gives out all kinds of books.
“We were looking for something fun to get, and this seemed like a great way to show off the books in a safe and fun way,” said Candi Carr, president of the Northside PTA. “I mean, every kid likes to put a coin in the machine and get something out.”
Each student will get a golden token on their birthday that they can use to get a free book. It’s easy to use the machine. A touch screen is there.
Fairport’s Northside students got a huge surprise after holiday break—a new book vending machine. Fairport PTA made it happen. It’s stocked with free birthday books and rewards for positive kiddos. A golden token is their ticket to a new book. So cool! @SPECNews1ROC @FCSDtweets pic.twitter.com/Upa2JFvKCJ

Jordan Hagenbuch works for the school district as a specialist in behavior. She can’t wait to give the kids a new book as a reward.
Hagenbuch said, “I think the kids are already excited about it, which I think is a huge plus.” “Anything that gets kids excited is a good way to teach them something. So, yes, we can use this to encourage everyone to behave well.”
