Six people rescued from Lake Ontario

Sodus, New York – On Thursday afternoon six people were rescued after the Wayne County Sheriff’s Marine Patrol Unit pulled them out of Lake Ontario Around 1:15 p.m.

According to the Marine Patrol Unit, they responded to the report of 2 kayaks about one mile north of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum, on Lake Ontario that had been flipped over.

Deputies say two people were found in the water and were pulled into the Sheriff’s boat.

Not far from the first one, a second kayak was then seen, with two other people in the water next to it.

Deputies made their way over and pulled the next two people out of the water.

A final kayak was very close, which also had two others in the water nearby.

They were pulled out of the water and all six people were rescued safely.

The family was visiting on vacation; no one was seriously hurt.

Crews from the Sodus Point, North Rose, and Pultneyville Fire Departments Water Rescue Units along with the Silverwater Ambulance, NYS DEC, and NYSP assisted in the rescue.
