A man seriously hurt in a crash in Junius

Junius, New York– On Wednesday night a man from Seneca County was injured in a crash in Junius.

According to Seneca County Sheriff’s deputies, a vehicle was driven by 20-year-old Shyquest Powell rear-ended a second vehicle driven by 66-year-old Brett Rising on State Route 218 in Junius.

Deputies say Rising’s vehicle rolled over multiple times. Rising was ejected from the vehicle and later was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to deputies, Powell and a 17-year-old passenger were later picked up by a driver not involved in the crash. Witnesses reported that Powell and the teen moved a large number of clothes from their car to the other driver’s.

The vehicle was later stopped on State Route 5, and both Powell and the teen were arrested. Deputies say it was determined that both were in possession of goods stolen from multiple stores.

Powell was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal possession of the stolen property, leaving the scene of a personal injury motor vehicle accident, in addition to several traffic citations. She was released on her own recognizance and is due back in court at a later date. The 17-year-old was charged with criminal possession of the stolen property and was issued an appearance ticket.
