RPD: Armed Robbery Suspect Shot by Store Clerk
Rochester, N.Y. – Rochester Police say a suspect’s luck ran out during his fourth alleged robbery Wednesday.
He’s now in the hospital after being shot by a store clerk on Thurston Road.
Police say it all started around 4:30 p.m. with an alleged armed robbery at a Kwik Fill in Victor.
Ontario County authorities alerted Rochester officers before the suspect allegedly came to the city, robbing a Fastrac on West Ridge at gunpoint just before 7 p.m. and hitting the Family Dollar on Dewey Avenue around 15 minutes later.
Police say when the alleged suspect tried robbing Angelo’s Grocery on Thursday Road, he was met with two clerks, before one of the clerks shot the suspect in the upper body.
“We did have back to back to back robberies from the lake section here to Genesee. So, that was obviously stressful and if not for the actions of the store clerk defending himself in the store, the robberies may continue or somebody else may unnecessarily get hurt,” said RPD Captain Naser Zenelovic.
Investigators say the 25-year-old suspect, whose name they are not releasing yet, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital and is in guarded condition, but police believe the injuries are non-life-threatening.
