Rochester is hosting a gun buyback event where assault guns can be purchased for up to $500
Rochester, New York – With a gun buyback event scheduled for next weekend, New York Attorney General Letitia James is stepping up efforts to reduce gun crime in Rochester.

The guns on site will be returned for prepaid gift cards.
The following sums will be given for weapons that are turned in:
• $500 per assault rifle
• $250 per handgun
• $75 per rifle or shotgun
• $25 per non-working, replica, antique, homemade, or 3D-printed gun
“Every gun removed from this community is a potential crisis avoided and a horrible accident averted,” James said in a statement. “The upcoming gun buyback event that my office is coordinating with local law enforcement and public officials will enable New Yorkers from throughout the region to dispose of unwanted guns in exchange for gift cards. Together, we will work tirelessly to protect Rochester residents and combat gun violence across the state.”
The event will take place at the Church of Love Faith Center on Exchange Street on Saturday, October 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
