Popular Elmira Street is paved after difficult conditions for months
Elmira, New York – After months of construction and patchwork, paving finally arrived on Friday for one of Elmira’s busiest roadways.
On Friday, September 13, crews were working early to pave over a sizable portion of East Water Street and set up cones and blockades.
The paving work being done on Friday, according to Jason French, Deputy Commissioner of the Chemung County Department of Public Works, is simply a temporary one-inch job intended to improve the road’s conditions and get it ready for the winter.
The section of road between Madison Avenue and Clemens Center Parkway will be demolished once more in the spring when a more extensive road project is completed, according to French, who stated that it was best to complete it now while the weather was still favorable.
According to French, the project will resemble the 2021 renovations made to West Water Street. French replied that decisions were still being made when asked if there will be medians akin to those on West Water Street.
French stated that no work was being done on Madison Avenue and that all of the cones there were there to obstruct traffic. The job was scheduled to be completed on Friday at around 2:00 p.m.
