Person tests positive for West Nile Virus in Wayne County

Wayne County, New York – An individual in Wayne County has been found to have a positive West Nile Virus test result.
The condition, which is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that is infected with the disease, can result in severe illness.
On Wednesday, the Wayne County Public Health Department verified that the individual had a positive test result and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
It is estimated that approximately one-quarter of those who become infected with West Nile Virus will exhibit symptoms.
For those over the age of fifty, the likelihood of having a major illness is at its maximum. Fever, headache, body aches, and skin rash are some of the symptoms that may be experienced. Additionally, individuals may have numbness, paralysis, and weakening in their muscles.
The majority of cases of West Nile Virus occur during the summer or early fall, when mosquitoes are often more active.
In order to protect yourself against insects, the officials in charge of public health urge that you remove any standing water, wear long sleeves, and apply insect repellent.
