Ovid fire was caused by a charging item that was hooked into an electrical outlet

Romulus, New York – Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Thompson said Wednesday that a fire that destroyed four businesses on Main Street in Ovid Tuesday night was caused by a charging gadget that was hooked into an electrical outlet.
Shortly after 5:45 p.m., a 911 call was received regarding a fire at an apartment building above the Ovid Big M.
According to investigators, hours after returning to the flat, a resident reported putting in the charging device and discovering it was burning. Then, she claimed, she gathered her kids and left the residence.
The Big M, a tax collector’s office, a laundry, and the Italian Kitchen restaurant near the intersection of Main and Seneca streets were all destroyed by the fire.
According to Thompson, the fire forced 15–20 locals to evacuate. There were no reported significant injuries.
Although smoke was still evident until Wednesday afternoon, the Ovid Fire Department said that it took 11 hours for firefighters to clean the scene.
