NY State names Erwin as a Pro-Housing Community

Erwin, New York – The New York State Pro-Housing Community designation was made public by the Town of Erwin.

In July of last year, New York State launched the Pro-Housing Community initiative, which offers incentives to local governments for their efforts to alleviate the state’s housing problem. Municipalities that have earned the Pro-Housing Community certification are qualified to qualify for grants that are unavailable to other municipalities.

According to the Town of Erwin, this new accreditation affirms the town’s dedication to offering everyone access to varied, reasonably priced homes. The town claims that Erwin become a pro-housing community by enacting inclusive zoning laws, collaborating with regional developers, and lending support to housing associations.

“Being designated as a Pro Housing Community is a tremendous honor for the Town of Erwin,” said Deputy Town Manager Melissa Greenthal. “This recognition reflects our dedication to creating a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone can access safe and affordable housing. It will significantly enhance our ability to attract new residents and businesses, fostering economic growth and community well-being.”

Erwin can now get additional funding for initiatives like affordable housing developments, neighborhood redevelopment programs, and infrastructure upgrades thanks to the town’s new accreditation. Additionally, the town will have access to technical support and direction to put creative housing alternatives into practice. It is anticipated that Erwin will be able to solve issues with home affordability, decrease homelessness, and guarantee that its expanding population has access to high-quality housing with the support of the program’s resources.

In order to be eligible for the Pro-Housing Community program, municipalities must submit an application and demonstrate that they have granted permits that have increased the supply of housing by 1% or 0.33% over the previous three years. If local governments pass a resolution committing them to increasing housing, even if they haven’t seen this expansion, they can still be certified as Pro-Housing.
