Monroe County honors fallen hero Officer Jamieson Ritter with the renaming of Lakefront Lodge to Jamieson Ritter Memorial Lodge, a heartfelt tribute to his bravery and sacrifice in the line of duty

Webster, New York – In a poignant tribute to a fallen hero, Monroe County is set to rename the Lakefront Lodge in Webster Park to honor Officer Jamieson Ritter, who died in the line of duty. The renaming to “Jamieson Ritter Memorial Lodge” was unanimously approved by the Monroe County Legislature, reflecting a community’s reverence for the sacrifice of one of its own.
Officer Ritter, a native of Webster, NY, tragically lost his life on July 4, 2024, while serving with the Cleveland Police Department. His untimely death has resonated deeply within the community, prompting local officials and residents to seek ways to commemorate his life and service. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello spearheaded the initiative, recognizing Ritter’s heroic deeds and ultimate sacrifice.
“Jamieson Ritter’s heroic actions and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will be remembered by the people he served and by the residents of Monroe County,” Bello remarked during the announcement.
Born and raised in Webster, Ritter was a 2015 graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School. He pursued higher education at Syracuse University, graduating in 2019, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. Following his education, Ritter served in the Ohio Army National Guard and was deployed to Syria in 2022.
His commitment to service was inspired by his father, a former officer with the Greece Police Department, instilling in him a profound desire to serve his country and community.
The decision to rename the lodge was met with overwhelming support from local leaders and the community, symbolizing a collective acknowledgment of Ritter’s contributions and bravery. Majority Leader Michael Yudelson expressed his honor in being part of this significant act.
“I am incredibly honored to be a part of renaming the Lakefront Lodge in Webster Park to the Jamieson Ritter Memorial Lodge. Mr. Ritter was tragically killed in the line of duty in 2024, and deserves this remembrance in our community. May his legacy of serving this nation and his community with protection and honor continue for years to come.”
Echoing this sentiment, Republican Leader Steve Brew highlighted the lasting impact of Ritter’s dedication.
“Officer Jamieson Ritter dedicated his life to serving and protecting others, embodying the very best of law enforcement and our community. His bravery and sacrifice must never be forgotten, and renaming Lakefront Lodge in his honor ensures that future generations will remember and be inspired by his legacy. This is a fitting tribute to a true hero,” Brew remarked.
The Ritter family has expressed deep gratitude for this honor, which not only commemorates Jamieson’s life but also reinforces his enduring legacy of service.
“It is a profound honor that Jamieson’s ultimate sacrifice is being recognized and remembered by his hometown community,” the family stated. They hope that his story will inspire others to similarly dedicate themselves to service and community.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for May 2025, which will officially mark the lodge’s new identity as the Jamieson Ritter Memorial Lodge. This event is expected to draw community members and dignitaries alike, all coming together to remember a local hero whose life story will continue to inspire courage and selflessness in others.
