Mayor Malik Evans and community leaders announce May 3 date for 2025 Clean Sweep, calling on Rochester residents to unite for citywide beautification effort

Rochester, New York – In a display of community spirit and civic pride, Rochester Mayor Malik D. Evans, alongside notable local figures including Naomi Silver, President and CEO of the Rochester Red Wings, officially announced the date for the 2025 Clean Sweep event. The annual city-wide cleanup is set to take place on Saturday, May 3, 2025, starting at 8 a.m. at Innovative Field, located at 1 Morrie Silver Way.
During the announcement, Mayor Evans passionately called upon residents of Rochester and surrounding areas to volunteer for what he described as a “spectacular moment” to enhance the city’s neighborhoods.
“Clean Sweep is a wonderful annual opportunity for Rochesterians to show some spirit and demonstrate their pride in the Flower City through action,” Mayor Evans stated, emphasizing the transformative impact of the collective effort on the city’s aesthetic and community spirit.
The event draws participants from various sectors including local businesses, sports teams, community groups, churches, and youth organizations across Monroe County. Individuals are also encouraged to join in. The morning will kick off with volunteers gathering at Innovative Field where they will be organized into groups and assigned to different project sites. Each volunteer will receive a Clean Sweep T-shirt and enjoy a light breakfast before boarding buses destined for various locations across the city.
At these sites, volunteers will be equipped with gloves, tools, and bags provided by the city to carry out tasks such as graffiti removal, sidewalk repairs, pothole filling, and planting flowers. City crews will assist by cleaning city properties and ensuring that all sites are prepped for the day’s activities. After the cleanup, volunteers are invited back to Innovative Field for a complimentary Red Wings game ticket and a free lunch, a token of appreciation for their hard work and participation.
Residents interested in participating in the Clean Sweep can register by calling 311, or 585-428-5990 for those outside city limits, or by signing up online. All volunteers are advised to wear appropriate clothing for the cleanup activities, including hard-soled shoes and long pants. While the city provides necessary tools and gloves, volunteers are welcome to bring their own equipment if they prefer.
Moreover, the event offers a unique opportunity for high school students to earn participation in government credit, encouraging young residents to engage in civic duties and learn the value of community service.
Through initiatives like the Clean Sweep, Mayor Evans hopes to foster a sense of unity and pride among Rochesterians, making it clear that everyone’s contribution is vital to the city’s ongoing beautification and community enhancement efforts.
