Lake Street Lawnfest is coming to Elmira
Elmira, New York – Lake Street Lawnfest, a new block celebration on Lake Street in Elmira, is scheduled to take place in a few weeks.
Lake Street will be closed from Fifth Street to Water Street throughout the event so that people can walk the whole length of the street. There will be nine non-profit organizations in the area set up along Lake Street for anyone who wants to learn more about the resources that are available. The public is welcome to attend the block celebration for free.
Meals on Wheels of Chemung County executive director Katie Boland noted that there would be food trucks, live music, and kid-friendly activities.
“I genuinely want individuals to be aware that our community offers volunteer opportunities for everyone to lend a hand,” Boland stated.
The Elmira Economic Opportunity Program’s Chief Development Officer, Anita Lewis, states that the objective is to publicize volunteer opportunities and the services offered in the community.
“Our goal is for everyone to have access to all of the services offered, as this will present them with opportunities to learn about things they were previously unaware of,” Lewis stated. Additionally, it will be a chance for companies to consider how they may get involved and support both private companies and NGOs.
The block party is set for Saturday, September 14, from noon to four o’clock in the afternoon.
