Webster, New York – A 69-year-old man was hit and killed on Empire Boulevard, which connects the municipalities of Penfield and Webster, early on Christmas Eve. Local companies are now demanding reform.
Empire Boulevard. “Webster is a very busy street, and I’ve lived here my entire life,” said Brian Cox of the Nutcracker Family Restaurant. “Lots of accidents, lots of deaths.”
“A lot of people up here (would) like to see some slower speed limits, crosswalks,” Cox continued, expressing his desire to see some adjustments made.
Laura Reid, his coworker, emphasized the point further.
“Pedestrians are constantly crossing Empire Boulevard,” Reid remarked. “Sidewalks are what we need, in my opinion, and they should be plowed so that people may walk on them. Due to its four lanes, the road is extremely congested.
It’s not exactly walkable here, according to Mike Balch of Bartertown Collectibles, which is just down the road.
It’s not like a sidewalk or any other surface on which to walk. For the most part, people are moving down Empire really quickly,” Balch said.
Here, business owners tend to talk about speed.
Automobiles are approaching at high speeds. Just after the breakup with Empire, Jenelle Oliver of the upscale Ridge Road bakery Kiss Me Cookie commented, “It would be fantastic if people could slow down.”
According to Oliver, she is concerned about the youngest person walking.
“It would be wonderful to have a crosswalk,” she remarked. “I know that we have a lot of kiddos in the area, so I’d like to look out for them.”
If you must traverse the avenue, wear colorful attire, especially in this season of limited daylight, advised Nicoletta Lambrianidis of Maa’s Diner.
“In the middle of the road, I can be completely black,” she remarked. “You have to exercise caution when I’m crossing it, particularly when I’m crossing the street. Personally, I have a torch.
Investigations into the Christmas Eve crash are still ongoing. According to the police, it is not illegal in nature.
