East Rochester 12-year-old broke the Guinness world record for longest swing
East Rochester, New York — The 12-year-old, Sean Lewis from East Rochester started on his path toward a world record for swinging Thursday morning.
On Friday afternoon, he broke the Guinness world record for longest swing.
Sean’s planning on swinging for at least 34 hours to beat an unofficial record out of New Zealand.
According to Lewis’ dad, Matt, his son already has quite a bit of experience on the swing.
“When I put up the rope swings years ago, he just fell in love with them,” he said. “I think one day he was thinking, maybe there might be a record associated with it, and he looked it up and thought he could do it.”
Matt adds the East Rochester community has shown a lot of support for the effort.
“East Rochester’s a great community for that, for anything you do,” he said. “So, I’m not surprised. I knew the support would come out.”
“I’m trying to keep him motivated this whole time,” said Sean’s sister, Samantha. “His friends are here and have been great. Keep him going in a good mood and entertained, I’ve given him food, anything.”
According to Sean’s dad, strict rules set by Guinness have to be followed during the record attempt, but he is able to get 20-minute breaks every few hours.
