Community gatherings to raise money for scholarships in memory of fallen policeman Jamieson Ritter

Riga, New York – Friends and neighbors came together on Saturday at the Churchville Moose Lodge to offer their support to the family of Jamieson Ritter, a Cleveland police officer and native of Webster, who was shot and killed while performing his duty earlier this month.

“To see the impact and hear the stories of how incredible he was just gives you joy, and amounts for us to live on and live like he did and be an amazing human being,” stated Angelica Ritter, Jamieson’s sister.

Numerous people were present to raise money for the Ritter family, and Jamieson’s name was added to a scholarship. The Jamieson Ritter Foundation seeks to award scholarships to McQuaid Jesuit seniors who, like Jamieson, wish to pursue careers in police enforcement or the military.

The Moose Lodge president, Licia Colbert, stated, “Everything we raised there will go the family, all the door, all the money that we bring to the tickets at the door go to the family.” “Everything we’re doing here today is going to the family.”

Early on July 4, Ritter was shot and died on Cleveland’s east side while trying to serve a warrant and apprehend a suspect who was charged with felony assault.

Jamieson’s mother, Karen Ritter, stated, “What we’ve been going through is unconscionable and never should have happened.” “For all of us—mother, father, brother, sisters, and, quite frankly, friends and extended family, niece and nephew—today is incredibly distressing and emotionally draining. That is a tragic event that ought never ever occur.

Jon and Karen Ritter wish to honor Jamieson’s life and raise awareness of the scholarship in light of the death of their son. On Saturday, they succeeded in raising over $5,000.

“This is a prime example of the things that we’ve been looking for since we’ve learned of his murder,” Jon stated, “and how we can keep his spirit alive and get people to hopefully change their attitude about the police.”
