Businesses in East End view the increased security measures as a chance for expansion

Rochester, New York – Safety comes first for companies in Rochester’s East End.

The public safety component of the event was handled so calmly and collectedly that Paul Hogue, general manager of The Daily Refresher on Alexander Street, commented, “We were really pleasantly surprised.”

The city declared a “special event zone” last Saturday in an effort to reduce violence in the busy district.

No one under the age of 21 was permitted in, and police and security personnel blocked off streets and demanded IDs.

“We are really happy with how the first week went,” Michael Burns, the deputy mayor of Rochester, stated. “We received a great deal of favorable feedback from customers and companies. They value the closure of the road since it improved the environment for pedestrian safety. the sensation of vigor and, above all, safety.”

After just one weekend, companies are already strategizing how to capitalize on the pedestrian-only area, observing the success of similar zones in places like Cleveland and Kansas City.

Property owner Max Gianniny stated, “It takes a collaboration between the business owners, property owners, and the city.” “It really feels like that’s all happening right now.”

“We have the groundwork laid to really build up the area, getting in food trucks, vendors, entertainment,” Hogue stated.

Over one thousand wristbands were given out to visitors the first weekend.

Mayors believe there is room for much more expansion.

“I know many people are familiar with the East End Festival from days gone bye, and have fond memories of that,” Burns stated. “I think that what’s most exciting is that there is really a tremendous opportunity to plan and bring vitality back to the area.”

Until further notice, the special event zone is open from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 3 a.m. on Sunday.

The complete list of blocked streets consists of:

• Alexander Street from Chapman Alley to East Avenue
• Gardiner Park
• Dryer Alley
• Lawrence Street
• Shuart Street
• East Avenue, between Alexander and South Union streets
