Man pleads guilty to rioting during 2020 civil unrest
Rochester, New York – On Friday, a man facing federal arson charges, accused of setting fire to a mobile office trailer during civil unrest downtown two years ago, pleaded guilty to rioting.
A 29-year-old, Marquis Frasier, participated in a protest near the Public Safety Building on Exchange Street May 30, 2020.
According to prosecutors, the protest turned violent and resulted in vandalism, damaged property, looting, and fires, with Frasier and others setting fire to the trailer and destroying it.
Frasier was seen in a Facebook Live video holding a Molotov cocktail and later throwing it inside the trailer, according to a federal complaint.
Frasier turned himself in June 22, 2020. He “admitted to spray painting, smashing out windows of a truck, breaking glass for the back entrance doors of the Court Exchange Building…and stealing beverages out of vending machines inside the building,” according to court paperwork.
Fraiser faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 6.
