Mercy Flight returns to the skies after deadly helicopter crash
Rochester, New York – Following a helicopter crash that killed two pilots last week, Mercy Flight out of Western New York is now back in service.
Due to safety concerns, the service had been on pause.
According to Mercy Flight, its two other helicopters are safe to fly after being looked at by third-party inspectors.
Mercy Flight Central, out of Canandaigua, has been filling in since the deadly crash on April 26.
According to the agency, this tragedy has changed them forever, but they know that patients still need the service.
One of the pilots killed, Jim Sauer of Churchville, was laid to rest Monday. Sauer served in the Army National Guard and the Rochester Police Department. He also flew for the state police as a civilian pilot.
Investigators are still working to figure out what caused the crash.
