Rochester teen facing several charges after stealing car with infant inside
Rochester, New York — A 17-year-old is accused of stealing a car with a baby inside and fleeing police before crashing.
According to Rochester Police, she was arraigned Wednesday morning on first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth-degree grand larceny.
On Tuesday around 2 p.m., several law enforcement agencies responded to East Ridge Road near Seneca Avenue for the report of a stolen car that was left running with the keys inside. The caller reported that a 3-month baby was in the back seat.
Later, officers spotted the stolen vehicle near Dewey Avenue and West Ridge Road. When police tried to stop the car, the driver took off, leading police on a chase.
The chase ended at the corner of Pattonwood Drive and St. Paul Boulevard in Irondequoit. The suspect crashed after failing to navigate a turn.
According to the police, the baby was saved by officers and was not injured, but was sent to the hospital to be checked out.
The teen was arrested at the scene. She was arraigned Tuesday night.
The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office requested $50,000 cash bail, $150,000 bond, or a $300,000 partially-secured bond.
The judge set bail at $20,000 cash bail, $10,000 bond, or $20,000 partially-secured bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
