Woman suffered a double-amputation of both lower extremities after being struck by train in Palmyra
A serious train vs. pedestrian accident happened in the town of Palmyra.
According to police, it happened around 9:13 p.m. on Friday when deputies were called to the intersection of Maple Avenue and Division Street.
A victim was identified as Cheryl Daly, 53, of Palmyra, reportedly laying on the tracks when she was struck by an eastbound CSX freight train. Deputies say Daly was located under the train and extricated by law enforcement who provided medical attention until the arrival of fire and EMS.
According to deputies, Daly suffered a double-amputation of both lower extremities along with multiple contusions and abrasions. She was sent to Strong Memorial Hospital by ambulance for life-threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by Palmyra and Macedon police, Finger Lakes Ambulance, and Palmyra Fire Department.
