Red Wings chosen as AAA affiliate for Washington Nationals
The Rochester Red Wings have a parent team again.
The Washington Nationals will be the Major League Baseball affiliate for the Wings. The move was announced Thursday morning by U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer.
This follows the announcement last week that the Minnesota Twins would no longer be the parent club of the Red Wings. The Twins had been the MLB affiliate for the Red Wings since 2003.
There had been rumors the Nationals were considering Rochester as the frontrunner to take over their AAA operation.
The Nationals will be the fourth parent team for the Red Wings, following the Cardinals (1929-1960), Orioles (1961-2002) and Twins. This marks the first time in 60 years that the Red Wings will have a National League affiliate instead of an American League team.
