Vote for new firehouse in Henrietta Fire District is Tuesday
HENRIETTA, N.Y. — The vote for a new firehouse in the Henrietta Fire District is Tuesday.
The vote was supposed to happen back in March, but it was delayed because of the pandemic.
The proposed new firehouse on Erie Station Road is designed to better protect the southwest side of town and would house firefighters 24-7.
The chief says he knows money is tight right now, and it’s a risk to have a vote for a bond that would slightly increase taxes, but he and the committee believe public safety outweighs the increase.
According to their website, the maximum bond cost is expected to be 16 cents per $1,000 of the assessed value of the property per year. The cap would be $24 a year for $150,000 home.
“That’s really what we’re looking for is a faster response to this side of town,” Chief Mark Strzyzynski said. “From our other engine company that runs out of bailey road to this location it takes them seven to nine minutes to get to this firehouse on a good day, so then you add farther south and bad weather, it takes a long time for them to get there.”
The project also includes an upgraded training facility.
The vote is Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
