Hit-and-Run Crash on Thruway Leaves Two People Dead
State police are looking for the driver of a tractor trailer they say was involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident on the I-90 West near Henrietta in Monroe County.
Monroe County Reporter reports the accident happened early Friday morning on the Thruway between Henrietta and LeRoy, when a tractor trailer apparently crossed multiple lanes to make a u-turn.
“Another vehicle driving west behind the tractor trailer slammed into the back of the trailer, which sheered the roof off of the vehicle.”
The male driver of the vehicle was killed, and the female passenger was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital where she later died. The names of the victims have not been released, though state police say they were from Tennessee, reports Monroe County Reporter.
Police said the tractor trailer driver left the scene. They believe the driver stopped at the Double Tree Inn on Jefferson Road in Henrietta and “pulled a piece of the vehicle off of the rig.”
A Monroe County Sheriff’s deputy told Monroe County Reporter they recovered the discarded debris.
The tractor trailer is described as a yellow Volvo truck with a sleeper cab, pulling a trailer, and likely to have severe damage on the driver’s side.
