RIT lab to study benefits of “geo-games”
Henrietta, N.Y. – RIT’s new lab will study how location-based gamed can be used for good.
Niantic, the creator of augmented reality games like “Pokemon Go”, donated $400,000 to establish the lab.
Geo-games, as they’re sometimes known, are primarily played on mobile devices, and the experience depends on both the events in the game and the player’s position in the physical world.
In addition to improving gameplay design, researchers will also learn about the impact the games have on players, as well as local and global cultures.
