Carter found $150 during recess and turned it in
Rochester, New York – With the Do the Right Thing awards, nine students from throughout Monroe County were recognized for their bravery, kindness, and good deeds.
Third-grader AD Carter Blondell of Rochester Classical Academy won the prize for giving away money he found rather than keeping it for himself.
Blondell discovered $150 in cash in the bushes during recess, which led school principal Katie Curtis to nominate him. After handing over the cash, he recommended that it be given to a church.
“It wasn’t mine and I didn’t want to take something that wasn’t mine,” Carter said.
His activities so impressed the school and the church that they decided to arrange a pizza party for him and his classmates.
We accept nominations for the Do the Right Thing Award all year long. Any Monroe County student enrolled in grades K–12 is qualified to nominate someone. The nomination must have been made and the good deed completed within a year. A nomination form may be submitted by anybody over the age of 18, including coaches, teachers, family, and friends.
Since 1995, the Rochester Police Department has been the recipient of The Do the Right Thing awards.
Here is more information about recommending a student.
