Apartment fire on East Main Street investigated as suspicious
Rochester, New York – On Monday calls came in shortly after 7 a.m. for a fire at a home with multiple apartments on East Main Street at Alexander Street.
According to firefighters, they had just responded to a fire at the same address Friday.
On Monday morning, crews rescued four people as the fire spread through the entire building.
“The fact that we had so much fire on so many floors has us concerned as to the cause of this fire,” said Joseph Luna, acting executive deputy chief for the Rochester Fire Department. “Usually you find a bedroom or a floor that’s burning. When you get where you’re fighting a fire and you realize it’s every floor and every space that seems to be burning, you know something’s up, so that was probably the most particular challenge for the firefighters attacking this fire today.”
The owner of the home says it will be torn down.
Crime Stoppers asks anyone with information on the fire to call at 423-9300.
