31-year-old man is dead after shooting on Bartlett Street
Rochester, New York – One person is dead after a shooting on the city’s west side Wednesday.
According to the Police, they were called to Bartlett Street near Jefferson Avenue around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday for the report of shots fired.
When they arrived on scene they found 31-year-old Eric Ruise injured from multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene.
According to investigators, more than 20 rounds were fired at Ruise from multiple suspects.
Rochester City Council Vice President Willie Lightfoot said he heard the shots from his barber shop. He said children were playing on a playground just a few feet away from where the shooting took place.
“To be sitting in my shop and hear multiple gun shots in broad daylight while children are literally across the street is unacceptable,” he said. “As a community, we have to stop the blame game and step up and call Crime Stoppers and police and share any information they can share to bring some justice to this incident today.”
“This violence in our community has to stop,” he added. “It’s going to take our entire community to be outraged. The people in the community have to step up to the plate and say enough is enough and we’re not going to allow this.”
Anyone with information is asked to call 911, the Major Crimes Unit at 428-7157 or MajorCrimes@cityofrochester.gov, or Crime Stoppers at 423-9300.
