The state of New York provides additional funding for community forestry initiatives
New York – New York will soon have extra green space thanks to a funding increase for Urban and Community Forestry Grants of more than $5 million, as revealed by Governor Kathy Hochul’s office.
According to the agency, the funds will be used for roughly 17 projects, the majority of which will center on planting trees and managing community forests.
“Ensuring a sustainable and resilient future for all New Yorkers through investments in community green space is a significant step towards revitalizing our cities and towns,” Governor Hochul stated. “These investments will help us get closer to reaching our climate goals and provide cleaner air and water to every corner of our state.”
It occurs as the state gets ready for Sunday, which is Climate Week every year.
“Urban trees are more than simply a little piece of nature in our cities; they also enhance public health, lessen the effects of intense heat, and enhance air quality. We improve the quality of life for all New Yorkers by creating green spaces in regions affected by climate change and other environmental issues, therefore cooling streets and residences. The NYS DEC’s interim commissioner, Sean Mahar, stated that trees are an essential component of our urban landscapes and leave a legacy for future generations.
According to state representatives, the federal Inflation Reduction Act is the reason for this latest round of money.
