Rochester, New York — The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra is receiving a new grant.

The Andrew Mellon Foundation gives $100,000 that will be utilized to bolster a pilot care and wellness to program to help people living with Alzheimer’s and other degenerative conditions, as well as for training for musicians who work with such individuals.

Under the initiative, the RPO will take part in ten ensemble visits to care facilities and ten open rehearsals through next December.

After working on the pilot initiative, the RPO says it will look to help individuals living with a broader set of conditions such as PTSD and autism spectrum disorders.
